A delicious Umbrian gem featurning the local and unique grape vaiety Sagrantino. Dark, brooding fruit with earth tinged spice marries with a supple texture. Old world charm meets modern winemaking. This Montefalco Rosso is a take on Sangiovese that will be fresh for many. Blended with Sagrantino, a grape native to Umbria, this is a fuller, meatier, more structured expression of central Italy. Sagrantino on its own is extremely tannic and dark with a brooding mood about it. When blended with Sangiovese, it’s given a little more lift and cheer; its complex waves of dark cherry fruit, deeply integrated herbs, roasted nuts and sundried tomatoes make for the quintessential wine for heartier Italian cuisine. The firm, rustic texture and leathery aromas (a wine for the scotch drinker, perhaps?) make this perfect for steak dishes, mushroom casserole, or Bolognese.
